Terrace Lodge Redevelopment Project Reaches Milestone with Phase 2 Completion

For Immediate Release
June 18, 2024

Central Elgin, ON – In collaboration with the Ministry of Long-Term Care, the County of Elgin is proud to announce the completion of Phase 2 of the Terrace Lodge Redevelopment Project. This significant milestone is part of Ontario’s commitment to building 58,000 new and upgraded long-term care beds across the province, transforming Terrace Lodge from a Class C facility to a Class A facility.

The Terrace Lodge Redevelopment Project aims to provide high-quality, modern, and comfortable living spaces for our seniors. On May 15th, 2024, 18 residents moved into the newly renovated, two-story north resident home areas. These areas are equipped with spacious home kitchens, serveries, dining rooms, program/therapy rooms, and courtyard areas, enhancing the comforts of home for our residents and the work environment for our dedicated staff.

The newly completed Phase 2 features ten private rooms with ensuite washrooms, eight single rooms with shared ensuite washrooms, spacious common areas for programs and pleasurable dining, and enhanced infection prevention and control measures.

“We are thrilled to celebrate the completion of Phase 2 and look forward to the enhancements that Phase 3 will bring,” said Warden Ed Ketchabaw of Elgin County. “These upgrades are a vital part of our commitment to providing a safe, comfortable, and welcoming environment for our seniors. We are grateful to the Ministry of Long-Term Care for their support and to everyone involved in making this project a success.”

With Phase 2 now complete, we are excited to embark on the third and final phase of the project. This final phase will deliver 18 upgraded beds and enhancements to the core of the building, including a new tuck shop and event space, a large chapel, an overnight suite for visiting family members, and a brand-new gift shop to offer residents an opportunity for onsite shopping experiences. These new amenities will not only improve the daily lives of our residents but also provide essential spaces for community engagement and family visits.

The Terrace Lodge Redevelopment Project is a part of the Province of Ontario’s $6.4 billion commitment to building and upgrading long-term care beds across the province, ensuring that seniors receive the quality of care they need and deserve.

Additionally, Elgin County’s “Comforts of Home” fundraising campaign continues to play a crucial role in enhancing the newly renovated spaces with lounge and courtyard furniture, items to enhance programs and resident experiences, and other amenities, making Terrace Lodge truly feel like home for our residents.
