Central Elgin, ON – Elgin County is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a grant in the amount of $50,000 from the Province of Ontario in support of our emergency preparedness initiatives. The grant, approved by Emergency Management Ontario (EMO), is a significant step towards ensuring the safety and resilience of our community in the face of potential emergencies.

The Community Emergency Preparedness Grant (CEPG) Program, administered by EMO, aims to empower communities across Ontario by providing funding for the purchase of emergency supplies, equipment, and services. Elgin County’s successful application underscores its commitment to proactive emergency management and preparedness.

The grant will enable Elgin County to undertake several vital projects aimed at enhancing public awareness and education regarding Elgin’s community risks, including tornadoes, blizzards, ice storms, flooding, hazardous material spills, health emergencies, and more. The proposed initiatives will benefit not only Elgin County but also our Local Municipal Partners.

Warden Ed Ketchabaw expressed gratitude for the support from the Province of Ontario, stating, “This grant represents a significant investment in the safety and well-being of our community. By enhancing our emergency preparedness initiatives, we are better equipped to protect and support our residents during times of crisis. With these funds, we can bolster public awareness, strengthen partnerships, and ensure the safety and well-being of our residents across Elgin County.”

The initiatives funded by the grant align with the mandate of Emergency Management Ontario to safeguard Ontarians before, during, and after emergencies. Elgin County remains committed to working collaboratively with its partners and stakeholders to ensure the ongoing safety and resilience of the community.
