New Curator Hired for Elgin County Museum

Central Elgin, ON – The Elgin County Museum is pleased to announce the appointment of Madeleine Howard as its new Curator, effective April 2nd, 2024. Madeleine will succeed Mike Baker, who is set to retire at the end of March after years of dedicated service to the Museum. With a profound enthusiasm for preserving and sharing local history, Madeleine eagerly anticipates the opportunity to delve into Elgin County’s rich heritage. “I am very excited to get started in the role as the Museum’s next curator with the opportunity to showcase the many great stories relating to Elgin County’s history,” states Madeleine.

Bringing a wealth of expertise to her new role, Madeleine holds Master’s degrees in both Museum Studies and Information, Archives, and Records Management from the University of Toronto. Her journey with Elgin County includes over two years of experience, having served on staff with both the Museum and Archives. Prior to her tenure with the County, Madeleine contributed her talents as a Collections Assistant at the London Children’s Museum and as a historical interpreter at Fanshawe Pioneer Village.

This appointment marks an exciting chapter for the Elgin County Museum, as Madeleine’s passion and expertise promise to invigorate the Museum’s mission of preserving and celebrating the vibrant history of Elgin County.
